Altair Expands to South Africa with Office in Stellenbosch

TROY, Mich., July 28, 2014: Altair, a US-based engineering company, recently acquired EM Software & Systems - S.A., makers of FEKO® electromagnetic field analysis software. FEKO is now becoming part of Altair’s computer-aided engineering (CAE) suite HyperWorks®. With this move, Altair gains a local presence in South Africa with tremendous depth of industry expertise. Personnel in Stellenbosch will be responsible for all Altair sales and support activities in the region.

Altair’s technology allows businesses to create superior, market-leading products efficiently and cost effectively. Apart from several modeling and visualization products, HyperWorks offers analysis and optimization for structural analysis and lightweight design, computational fluid dynamics, multi-body system performance, manufacturing process simulations for metal and polymer extrusion, sheet metal forming simulation, and more.

“Altair’s flexible software licensing model replaces traditional licensing plans with a pay-per-use system, which means that users can use multiple applications for a unit-based flat rate rather than paying for each license,” explains Gronum Smith, newly appointed country manager for Altair South Africa. “This approach leads to higher software utilisation, making companies more productive while reducing costs and resulting in a higher return on investment.”

HyperWorks users also have access to a broad range of complementary product offerings from independent software vendors through the Altair Partner Alliance. Software covering areas such as composite modeling, plastic injection molding as well as project- and complexity management, durability, fatigue, noise, vibration and harshness are just some of the solutions available.

“We are very excited to offer local sales and technical support to existing Altair customers in South Africa, and are convinced that there will be many opportunities for new business in the region,” comments Dr. Detlef Schneider, Senior Vice President of Europe, the Middle East and Africa at Altair. Executives from the company are in South Africa this week to attend the launch functions in Pretoria and Stellenbosch. For more information, please visit http://www.feko.info/about-us/events.

About EMSS
EMSS was founded in 1994 as a company consulting in electromagnetic field analysis and antenna design. Through consulting services EMSS identified the local and international need in the aerospace, naval and automobile industries for the simulation of antennas on electrically large platforms. The commercial code FEKO (www.feko.info) has some special features like hybrid methods catering for this market. FEKO’s applications extend beyond antenna design and antenna placement into areas such as electromagnetic compatibility (shielding, coupling, cable harness analysis), microstrip circuits and components, radar scattering analysis, and bioelectromagnetics.

EMSS Consulting and EMSS Antennas will continue as separate entities based in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
